Projection: need to automatically qualify

North Dakota looks like a team that will need to win the Summit League tournament to earn a spot in the NCAA field. The nonconference slate is weighed down by ugly road setbacks at Alabama, Creighton and Nebraska and by lopsided defeats at Hawaii and Idaho that make it hard to point to quality neutral or true road wins. The resume is propped up by a handful of bright moments, most notably home victories over Oral Roberts and South Dakota, a road win at Missouri KC and an earlier win at UC Riverside alongside a gritty result against Winthrop. With the defense frequently exposed in those heavy losses and with few signature wins so far, the remaining road dates at Oral Roberts, Denver and St Thomas and the home chances against NE Omaha and Missouri KC are the last realistic opportunities to change the committee’s view.
